How to choose the right treatment

Every child's treatment plan starts with an exam and X-rays. Small cavities can often be repaired with white fillings. Larger cavities usually need a zirconia or stainless steel crown, and decay that reaches the nerve may need a pulpotomy or pulpectomy first. Teeth that can't be saved are removed gently, sometimes followed by a space maintainer.

When a child needs several of these treatments, or can't comfortably sit through them in a dental chair, treatment under sedation lets our pediatric dentists complete the full plan in one visit.

Does my child need sedation for dental treatment?

Not always. Sedation is usually recommended when a child needs a lot of treatment, is very young or anxious, or has special health care needs. Your pediatric dentist will explain the options after an exam.

Can all of my child's treatment be done in one visit?

Yes. Under sedation or general anesthesia, fillings, crowns, baby root canals, and extractions can all be completed in a single appointment.

Are white crowns better than silver crowns?

Both protect the tooth well. White zirconia crowns look natural; stainless steel crowns are very durable and often used on back teeth. Your dentist will recommend the best option for each tooth.
