How it's done

Step by step

  1. 01

    Remove decay

Only the decayed part of the tooth is removed.

  2. 02

    Prepare the surface

The tooth is cleaned and prepared so the filling bonds securely.

  3. 03

    Layer and harden

Tooth-colored material is placed in layers and hardened with a curing light.

  4. 04

    Shape and polish

The filling is shaped to match the tooth and polished smooth.

01

What is a white filling?

White fillings are made of tooth-colored resin composite. After removing the decay, the dentist bonds the material to the tooth and shapes it to match. Because they blend in, they are a great restoration for front teeth and visible areas.

02

When is a filling enough?

Fillings work best for small to medium cavities. If decay is large or reaches the nerve, the tooth may need a pulpotomy and a crown instead. Your dentist checks each tooth on X-rays to choose the right repair.

How long do white fillings last in baby teeth?

With good brushing and regular check-ups, white fillings can last until the baby tooth falls out. New cavities can still form around them, so prevention matters.

Can my child eat after getting fillings?

Yes. After sedation, start with clear liquids and soft foods as described in our after-care instructions, then return to a normal diet as your child feels ready.
