Pulpotomy vs. pulpectomy
Inside every tooth is the pulp, which holds nerves and blood vessels. When decay reaches the pulp, the tooth can hurt or become infected.
the infected pulp in the crown of the tooth is removed, the healthy root pulp is kept, and a medicated material is placed to keep the tooth healthy.
when the infection extends into the roots, all of the pulp is removed and the canals are filled with a material that dissolves naturally as the baby tooth gets ready to fall out.
Either way, the tooth is then protected with a stainless steel or zirconia crown.
Signs your child may need one
- Toothache, especially at night or with hot and cold
- Swelling or a pimple-like bump on the gum
- A large, dark cavity visible on a tooth
Some teeth need treatment even without pain, so X-rays are important.
